about

Mad Body was a band that existed in a camp trailer in a lumber yard in Missoula, MT. We played together from 2018 to 2021. We never played a show in public. We never really played the same thing twice, except a weezer song and a sabbath song. Most of the time if one member of the band was playing or singing a cover song, the other two didn't know it was a cover, and we would just jam it. There's a couple of those on this album. We got together and drank boxed wine and Natty Daddy and jammed loud and noisy. The only people to ever hear us were our wives, girlfriends, and roommates. These recordings exist, because there was always a phone - usually Taunanana's - sitting in the room, recording everything we did.

We had dreams of taking Missoula's underground house show circuit by storm and igniting a shirtless revolution! Sadly though, we never got it together enough to get out of the lumber yard. But goddammit, we kicked ass in that lumber yard!

Mad Body came to an end when Taunanana, the heartbeat of our beloved punk band, had to leave Missoula and move away. We were heartbroken. But in our heartbreak, we turned to our massive shared folder of recordings that we had amassed over a couple years. There was more than enough material for an album and much of it was better than we had ever realized! So we set about putting together an hour of music that we thought would accurately represent who we were. That is this album, and we love listening to it. It reminds us of some of the best times we've ever had playing music. In a camp trailer tucked away in the corner of a lumber yard in Missoula, Montana.

EL-p (AKA Levi Potato, AKA Electric Noodle, AKA Joi Boi, AKA DJ Quid Homo) sang and screamed and joked and told stories and laid their heart out bleeding for all of us to see and feel. Their lyrics as blunt and brutal as the drums and bass that accompanied them. Their showmanship, boundless! Their need for connection, intimate and expansive. Their VOICE! Holy shit, their voice! Their voice ranged from a rich diaphragm vibrato to a quiet confession, to a bellowing scream and everywhere in between.

Taunanana (AKA Hundo) listened. first and foremost. Not just to the other musical parts happening in the room, but also to everything that was being said. If you notice that EL-p is having a conversation with someone? That someone is usually Taunanana! Somehow, Taunanana managed to jam in an improvised punk band and carry on a conversation with the vocalist at the same time! Incredible! Did I mention that Taunanana was also a fantastic drummer??? Delicately waiting for the perfect way to sneak in to a burgeoning groove, then raising the energy to a chaotic crescendo, and then pivoting on a dime! All improvised! FUCK!

The Racist Bassist was more of a drummer trying to play guitar on a bass. The Racist bassist made noise and hurt everyone's ears. Fuck him.
